Fauna and Flora Pitztal displays a varied and rich diversity
of fauna and flora. Anybody embarking on a tour of discovery will uncover an impressive
multitude of vegetation habitats spanning the moors of the Pillersattel to the
wetlands and glacial region. The forests, depending on altitude and location,
are home to pine, larch, Scots pine, and several rare deciduous trees ( aspen,
mountain ash). Dwarf juniper and savin are noteworthy shrubs. Apart from its economic
utilisation, the woods in the Pitztal are particularly important as avalanche
protection. Pitztal is home to a rich diversity of game. Apart from deer,
red deer and chamois, ibex, which was reintroduced in 1953 (Pitztal symbol), and
a small colony of mouflon sheep are mainly to be found. The capercaillie, black
cock, bearded vulture and marmot are likewise native to Pitztal.

Summit of feelings! Geigenkamm, Kaunergrat and Wildgrat
and the rest of them. Altitude paths and hikes, cabin-to-cabin hiking, glacier
walking - the view and the panorama from the summit are just as charming as a
cabin stopover. Traditional farming life is still vibrant in the alpine pasture
land down in the valley: butter and cheese making as well as the cosy get-togethers
at the numerous alpine festivals. It is precisely during the hiking season that
the fauna and flora shows its best side. Hiking along babbling brooks and enjoy
the fascinating view presented by the Pitztal glacier landscape. The sight of
wild goats, the symbol of the Pitztal, is no rarity. Alpine pastures exploding
in a riot of colour when in full bloom and a clear view to the horizon transform
the summer into a glorious natural spectacle! Experience nature to the full, while
your children are being cared for with a programme of fun and adventure at the
Pitzis' Kids' Club.
