St. Leonhard in Pitztal: feel the closeness to Tyrol’s highest Glacier

St. Leonhard: mountain gem between 1.182 and 1.783m above sea level

St. Leonhard, with about 1.500 residents and covering 220km², is located in the upper valley of Pitztal. Its villages and hamlets are scattered along the narrow valley over a total length of 25km.

During the summer season, St. Leonhard is an eldorado for mountain walkers and mountaineers. Mountain enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice with countless tours (for example to the highest mountain in Tyrol, the Wildspitze, at 3.774m) and into the magical world of Pitztal Glacier! The upper valley of Pitztal is highly regarded by alpinists. Tourism started here ever since the first members of German Alpine Clubs walked the valley at the end of the 19th century and soon after started to build the first Alpine Club houses.

St. Leonhard in Pitztal offers a unique experience to any skier, snowboarder, mountaineer and nature fan. Sports fans will find much choice, especially at Pitztal Glacier and Rifflsee ski and hiking resorts. Austria’s highest cable car transports amazed guests to 3.440m above sea level with a fantastic panoramic view, unrivalled in the whole Alpine region.

Excellently prepared pistes, fun parks, half pipes and guaranteed snow from September into the late spring attract skiing, carving and snowboarding fans! Numerous Après-ski bars and quirky pubs offer much diversion and fun after a day’s skiing.
