The Stampfle Mill in Jerzens
Culture, crafts and events in the historic ‘Stampfle’
The historic “Stampfle” in Jerzens is far more than just a mill – it is a place in the Jerzens community that brings people together. Here, the birthplace of innovations such as the unique Tyrolean milk pipeline, the focus today is on shared experiences. Once a week, when the historic mill is set in motion, the whole village is filled with the aroma of freshly baked bread. It is the perfect meeting place to learn traditional skills from local women, to lend a hand or simply to strike up a conversation.

The Stampfle
400 years of history in one place
The Stampfle is the oldest mill in Jerzens and has been in operation at its current location since 1582. The name ‘Stampfle’ is derived from the ‘Getreidestampf’, or grain-pounding mechanism. Baking bread together , seeing the grinding mechanism in action and tasting fresh raw milk from the milk pipeline in summer demonstrate how the mill works and the wide range of possibilities it offers. On selected weekends, a farmers’ market brings the village to life.

Jerzens Milk Pipeline
How the milk gets from the mountain pasture to the jug
The milk pipeline in Jerzens is a unique underground pipeline in the Alpine region, which transports fresh cow’s milk from the Tanzalm, situated at an altitude of 1,980 metres, directly to the village of Jerzens, 3.5 kilometres away and 900 metres lower down.
The milk is transported from the Tanzalm to the valley via the milk pipeline to Jerzens.
