Relax on leisurely walks in Pitztal

Walking routes in Pitztal are defined as short, hardly demanding routes. Some of our hiking paths are suitable for prams. Walking routes are particularly popular with senior citizens and families with small children. Or you may just wish to go on a romantic stroll to stretch your legs after a delicious dinner.

Pitztal does not only offer walking routes down in the valley but also easy routes on higher ground that can easily be accessed by using a mountain railway. You may, for example wish to go on the ZirbenPark circular route using Hochzeiger Bergbahnen, on the Lake Rifflsee circular route using Rifflsee Bergbahnen or walk to the Chapel of White Light on Pitztal Glacier.

The hiking trails in Pitztal are especially popular with families with small children and senior citizens. The majority of our paths are suitable for prams and some are even wheelchair-accessible.

Hike to Ritzenried

Starting point: opposite the fire station, on the right hand side of the Mühlbach stream. The track begins with an easy ascent, with only a few minor hills to climb. At the first fork, follow the path to the right to the hamlet of Schön and continue to Ritztenried. Return via the same route. 

Circular route Alois Gabl trail

Starting point: car park beyond the Hotel Wiese, facing the upper valley to your left. From the starting point walk through a beautiful gorge (Kitzgartenschlucht) to Zaunhof. At the bridge, continue on the agricultural road along the Pitze river to the hamlet Pfurmühl. From there, walk to Zaunhof and the church. Above the church, a 
pleasant forest path with fantastic views of the upper Pitztal valley takes you back to Schußlehn and the starting point after Wiese.

If you are still feeling fit, it is well worth continuing on a moderately steep path to admire the waterfall [Söllbergwasserfall]. Walking time: approx. 30 minutes.

Starting point: Kaitanger. In Kaitanger, directly below the toboggan run, follow a beautiful 2 km hiking trail in the direction of the catered mountain hut Leiner Alm. There are two options: turn left to Jerzens via Gischlewies, Falsterwies (approx. 1 hr) or turn right to the Leiner Alm (approx. 2 hrs).

Bichl circular route

Starting point: car park Volksschule Wald. Walk past the church on the left up the hill to the village of Bichl. At the fork, turn right and pass two chapels until you reach the Rastboden. Once there, turn left over a steep path to return to Weiler then continue back to your starting point.

Osterstein tour (big)

The hike starts from the parking space Fußballplatz Arzl. Follow the farm and forest road to the left of the soccer field. At the junction follow the road uphill in the direction of Ostersteinsiedlung for about 400 m. Then return via the so called path Diemersteig to the starting point.

Trail to the Taschach Alm

From the car park of the Rifflsee gondola cross the bridge and turn left to walk on the wide agricultural road up to the catered mountain hut Taschach Alm. Take the same way back to Mandarfen.

Hike to the Bichl Chapel

At the first turning for the Hochzeiger Mountain Lifts the path on the right leads to the Gotthardbühel.

Eggmahd circular walk

From the starting point walk along the tarmac road for ca. 300 metres. Then continue to walk on the forest road and follow the signposts “Rundwanderweg Eggmahd“ and turn right. Take in wonderful panoramic views of the Tschirgant, Sechszeiger – Hochzeiger summits with the town of Jerzens. Follow this trail until you reach Eggmahd and then turn right in the direction of Obermühlbach. Please note that there are large rocks on the last 100 metres. A broad tarmac road takes you past the small hamlet Bichl and back to the starting point Langegerte. 

Alternatively you can hike to the catered mountain huts Larcher Alm and Galfun Alm from Eggmahd which takes approximately 2 hours from there. 


 

Small ´Harbeweiher´ [pond] circular route

With your back turned to the Nature Park Centre, this circular route starts on the right on a farm road in a southerly direction. Follow this road until you reach a fork, turn right in the direction of Harbeweiher pond. To return to the Nature Park Centre, follow the signs and turn left to follow a wide forest path.

Nature experience

The whole family can easily and comfortably get from Hochzeiger valley station at 1,450 metres to the intermediate station at 2,000 metres above sea level via gondola. This is the ideal starting point for family hikes at Hochzeiger or a walk on our ZirbenPark nature trail. Those who wish to aim even higher can continue their way up via the Sechzeiger double chair lift up to 2,370 metres. From there, it is only a short walk to the Sechzeiger summit cross and its impressive 360 panorama.

Ascent with the gondola to the middle station at 2,000 Meter. This is the starting point for the one kilometer circular path through the ZirbenPark. There is much to discover at the various stations in the ZirbenPark.
