From 31st August to 2nd September 2020, the Pitztal is a stage stop of the legendary Transalpine Run. Around 600 runners are expected.
The high alpine route leads from Garmisch-Partenkirchen via Nassereith to Imst, into the Pitztal, further to Sölden, from there to the Stubai Valley, to Vals-Gitschberg Jochtal.
In total, the Transalpine Run 2020 covers 254.6 km with 16,498 vertical meters in the ascent and 15,198 vertical meters in the descent.
3rd stage: Imst — Mandarfen - 31st August 2020
Distance 51 km, elevation gain 3,163 hm ascent, altitude descent 2,286h m
The third stage of the Transalpine Run 2020 is the longest, the hardest and the one with the most meters in altitude. There is not much time left to enjoy the beautiful landscape on the way from the Inn to the glaciers of the Ötztal peaks. In a constant up and down it goes over the best Pitztal trails after 51 kilometers and over 3,000 vertical meters to Mandarfen at the end of the Pitztal.
Start: in Imst at 06:30 am
V2: Überquerung Markbach
V3: Tiefentaler Alpe
Zieldistanz/km 51 km
4th stage: mountain sprint - Rifflsee/Mandarfen - 01st September 2020
distance 7,3 km, elevation gain 691 hm ascent, altitude descent 65 hm
The mountain sprint is not long - but not to be underestimated. After a warm-up round in the valley it is pretty direct and steep uphill. The trail is characterized by large stone steps and tree roots. The route becomes flatter in the upper third of the route. After reaching the Rifflseehütte, the trail leads directly to the Rifflsee. Its circuit from south to north and a final climb are the final of this stage. The target is 2.398m MM.
5th stage: Mandarfen - Sölden - 2nd September 2020
distance 31 km, elevation gain 1.967 hm, altitude descent 2.294 hm
Over the Taschachalpe uphill towards Rifflsee. Before reaching the shore, the trail follows the Fuldaer Höhenweg. A downhill in the middle of the valley leads to the bottom of the Taschach Valley to the V1 there. Following the valley to Mittelberg and further to the glacier parlor. This is where the long but scenic climb to the Braunschweiger Hut and on to the Rettenbachjoch (2,992m) begins. Here, alpine panoramas open up onto glaciers and ice-covered peaks. Over snow fields it goes down to the V2 on the Rettenbach glacier. The last kilometers to Sölden lead along forest paths and sometimes steep trails.
Start: in Mandarfen at 08:00 am
V2: Parkplatz Gletscherstrasse
Zieldistanz/km 31 km
