Arzl in Pitztal

At the foot of the valley at 883 metres above sea level

Arzl, a village with approx. 3,000 residents and covering 30 square kilometres, is located at the foot of the Pitztal valley and lies approximately 15km from the ski and hiking resort of Hochzeiger (Wald approximately 11 kilometres, Leins approximately 7.5 kilometres). The ski and hiking resorts Pitztal Glacier and Rifflsee are 37 kilometres further up the valley. It takes less than an hour by train or car to get to Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol. Groups travelling by bus or motorbike appreciate the resort’s central location within the Alps.

At the entrance to the valley Arzl and its hamlets offers a varied impression of the powerful and exhilarant scope of holiday facilities of the entire valley. Its location is perfect for leisurely days in the midst of the beauty of nature and challenging mountain hikes alike.

Top off your holiday experience with a visit to the famous Luis-Trenker trail, Adlerhorst viewing platform, Wild Animal adventure trail, Steinwand via ferrata, Meditation Chapel, Corn Mill in Arzl-Ried, Benni Raich bridge, and the earth pillars.

During the winter season you can get to Pitztal’s three ski resorts very easily and you can also enjoy winter’s pleasures to the full away from the ski slopes while trying out hiking in the winter wonderland or tobogganing down a natural toboggan run.

The hamlets of Arzl in Pitztal are: Osterstein (880 m), Bahnhof (717 m), Timls (1,054 m), Hochasten (1,327 m), Blons (930 m), Wald (895 m), Arzl-Ried (911 m) and Leins (1.065 m).

Successful athletes from Arzl

  • Ski star and Olympic champion Benjamin Raich was born in Arzl and lives with his wife Marlies Raich (née Schild), a successful Slalom series winner and their three children in Arzl’s district Leins. He learned to ski at Hochzeiger and Pitztal Glacier ski resorts.
  • Angy Eiter, the exceptional climber, climbing world champion and world cup winner was also born in Arzl.
  • The Nordic combined champion Mario Stecher (Olympic and World Champion) discovered his love for Pitztal: he lives in Leins together with his wife Carina Stecher (Benni Raich’s sister) and their two children.
  • Triple deep snow world champion Georg Höllrigl also lives in Arzl, in the little hamlet of Timls.
