CLAR – Clean Alpine Regions – Pitztal

In 2020, the Pitztal was selected as one of four pilot regions for the Clean Alpine Regions project, a groundbreaking initiative by the Province of Tyrol and the Tyrol Business Agency. This initiative marked a decisive step towards supporting the Pitztal on its journey to becoming a more climate-friendly tourist destination. Thanks to co-funding from the European Fund, the project’s objectives were successfully achieved.

The overarching aim was to further expand environmental and climate protection measures within tourism development that not only preserve natural beauty but also actively contribute to climate protection.

Various measures were taken to achieve this objective:

Appointment of a sustainability manager
Certification of businesses for sustainability
Conducting a mobility study to promote sustainable modes of transport
Organising the Glacier Marathon as a green event
Support for the Pitztal Regional association in establishing marketing structures for regional products

Sustainable tourism

The project has made a significant contribution to advancing the tourism development of the Pitztal valley whilst placing greater emphasis on sustainability, and to laying the foundations for a more environmentally conscious future for the valley.
