In 2020, the Pitztal was selected as one of the four pilot regions for the Clean Alpine Regions project, a groundbreaking initiative of the province of Tyrol and the Standortagentur Tirol. This initiative marked a decisive step in supporting the Pitztal on its way to becoming a climate-friendly tourism destination. Thanks to co-financing from the European Fund, the project objectives were successfully achieved.

The overarching goal was to develop an environmentally conscious tourism region that not only preserves natural beauty but also actively contributes to climate protection.

Various measures were taken to achieve this goal:

Appointment of a sustainability manager
Qualification of companies for sustainability
Conducting a mobility study to promote sustainable means of transportation
Implementation of the glacier marathon as a green event
Support for the Pitztal Regional association in setting up marketing structures for regional products

Sustainable tourism

The project has made a special contribution to promoting the Pitztal as a sustainable tourism destination and laying the foundations for an environmentally conscious future for the valley.
