We are proud to bear the Austrian Ecolabel for Tourism Destinations. This means that we are committed to complying with a demanding list of criteria for our region. The measures are regularly reviewed to ensure that they are actually being implemented.
At the beginning of March 2025, we underwent the audit process for the Austrian Ecolabel for Tourism Destinations. Together with our partners and stakeholders in the region, we have demonstrated our commitment to sustainable and fair regional development.

Why strive for an eco-label for the Pitztal?
Sustainability in all its forms is a central component of our society today. As a tourism destination, we see it as our duty to make our contribution and set a good example. The Austrian Ecolabel for tourism destinations is internationally recognized and independently audited.

"The certification is not only a valuable recognition of our work to date, but also an important step on our way to sustainably developing the Pitztal as a fair region worth living in." - Pascal Tangl, Living Space Manager of the TVB Pitztal

Energy - natural resources

The Pitztal Valley is home to Europe's highest photovoltaic power plant on the Pitztal Glacier. The plant uses solar energy to generate clean electricity and reduce CO2 emissions. With state-of-the-art technology, it contributes to the energy transition and reduces dependence on fossil fuels. The Pitztal also relies on hydropower: there is a hydropower plant in St. Leonhard that uses the natural course of the river to generate electricity. Another hydroelectric power plant is located in Jerzens, where the power of water is also used efficiently. This combination of photovoltaics and hydropower demonstrates the Pitztal's strong commitment to renewable energies and a sustainable future.

Culture and tradition (living tradition)

Experience the living tradition of the Pitztal, a place with a rich history, old crafts and preserved customs. The secluded location has shaped life here for generations. Historic sights and lovingly executed crafts bear witness to this past. Young and old work together to preserve these traditions. Special events such as the mountain bonfire in early summer, the cattle drive in the fall and traditional carnivals bring the valley's cultural heritage to life. A visit to the many traditional festivals offers the opportunity to experience the real Pitztal and its unique atmosphere at first hand.
