Autumn in the Pitztal Valley
Where summer draws to a golden close and winter is already on the horizon.
As summer winds down in the Pitztal, the best time of year begins for anyone who wants the mountains all to themselves. The larch forests change colour from green to gold, clear days replace the summer heat, and the first fresh snow is already sitting atop the Pitztal Glacier.
Experience the diversity on your autumn holiday in the Pitztal.
Hiking in autumn
Autumn shows the Pitztal at its most crisp and clear: cool nights, stable high-pressure systems and views into the distance that you often have to hike for in summer. The mountain cable cars take you comfortably to our high-altitude trails – ideal for leisurely hikes with panoramic views. What’s more, many huts and alpine pastures offer special culinary delights to make your visit particularly enjoyable.
Must-see autumn events
When the cows in the Pitztal valley make their way down to the valley decked out in their finery, the pans of delicacies sizzle and Tyrolean cuisine is served up in a new way by the lake, then it’s autumn. Three events, one common thread: authentic Tyrolean tradition that you can taste, see and celebrate.
A winter start in autumn
Whilst the larch trees are still ablaze with colour down in the valley, the winter season is already getting underway on the Pitztal Glacier. As one of Austria’s most snow-reliable ski resorts, the winter season on the glacier begins as early as the end of September. Thanks to its high altitude, the cross-country skiing season also gets underway on the Mandarfen training trail from mid-October.

Downhill skiing & cross-country skiing
Skiing from September to May. The panoramic view from the Pitztal Glacier stretches from the Zugspitze, across the Allgäu Alps and the Silvretta Range, to the Ötztal and Stubai Alps. Cross-country skiers can look forward to varied training conditions in the valley and on the glacier.
