An easy bike ride today and a true calves’ killer tomorrow? Pitztal in Tyrol offers the whole range to mountain biking fans. There is actually no avoiding the classic “Pitztal Bike Route” that meanders through the entire length of the valley and, conveniently, all other trails branch off from it. Those who start at Imst can reach Mittelberg, the last hamlet at the foot of the glacier at the end of the valley, 1,750 metres above sea level covering 42 kilometres and 1,400 metres in altitude. Even mountain bike professionals calculate approximately six hours for this arduous day trip. Those of a more epicurean nature do it the other way round: start at Mittelberg and your bike will almost roll down the mountain by itself back to Imst. Those who wish to cycle shorter stages of the “Pitztal Bike Route” can simply jump on the hiking bus that will, of course, also transport bikes.
