Cross-country skiing

Cross-country skiing in Tyrol

Cross-country skiing in Austria is becoming ever more popular and your holiday resort Pitztal is one of the region’s most popular places to take part

Guaranteed snow

It’s not always easy for cross-country skiers: if you want to be absolutely sure that there is going to be enough snow and the cross-country ski tracks are free of charge and are going to be excellently prepared, Pitztal is the place for you. The 21.7 kilometre s long cross-country ski trail along the valley from the village of Wiese up to Mandarfen at 1,743 metres offers ideal conditions due to its high altitude even in warmer winters. Regardless of whether you prefer classic or skating style cross-country skiing – the panoramic views along this trail predominantly following the quaintly iced mountain river Pitze are simply stunning. Since we also want to share this pleasure with other winter sports enthusiasts looking for relaxation, most of the free cross-country ski tracks also serve as a winter hiking trail. For this reason we ask you to be considerate towards other cross-country and winter hiking trail users and to make an objective self-assessment.

Or how about taking a turn on the roof of Tyrol? From autumn to spring cross-country skiers can do some altitude training at the top of Pitztal Glacier at 2,760 metres against a breath-taking backdrop (prices cross-country skiing lift ticket glacier). The cross-country ski track at Rifflsee ski resort is on average 2,250 metres above sea level. Given these prospects, it’s not surprising that Mario Stecher, the double Olympic champion and ten-times World Cup Champion of Nordic combined has long since become a Pitztal resident by choice!
