Hike to Gletscherstube mountain hut

Start
Car park Mittelberg (1734m)
Finish
Car park Mittelberg (1734m)
Swiss-Trac Tour:
Use the car park at the end of the valley in Mittelberg, where a broad service road leads up to the catered mountain hut “Gletscherstube” on 1,926 m. The path to “Gletscherstube” is approx. 2 km long and is manageable with the Swiss-Trac in ca. 30 min. You can admire the end of the valley from the sun terrace. The anteroom of the toilet is accessible by mounting one step, however, the toilet cubicle door cannot be accessed as its door opens to the inside and it can therefore not be locked.
Altitude difference: ca. 120m, maximum gradient 5°

Circular route Pitzenhöfe

Start
Wenns Parkplatz Kirche/Mehrzwecksaal (976m)
Finish
Wenns Parkplatz Kirche/Mehrzwecksaal (983m)
Swiss-Trac Tour:
Please note that we recommend starting this circular route from Wenns in the direction of St Margarethen, as the forest path is very steep the opposite way around and in wet conditions assistance is required even when using the Swiss-Trac.
The route starts in Wenns following the pavement along the main road until reaching St Margarethen. After passing the M-Preis supermarket leave the main road and turn left into a side street. After ca. 500 metres the street enters a forest path. Depending on weather conditions, the surface of the path can be slippery, and especially the first section of the route is steep. Now follow an easily manageable downhill path through a forest for 1.5 km. There is a bridge after the woodland. Keep left and follow the tarmac road back to the centre of Wenns.

Large ´Harbeweiher´ [pond] circular route

Start
Nature Park Centre at Gachenblick (1584m)
Finish
Nature Park Centre at Gachenblick (1583m)
As with the small Harbeweiher pond circular hike, with your back turned to the Nature Park Centre, turn right on the farm road in a southerly direction. Follow this road to a fork and also turn right in the direction of Harbeweiher pond. Unlike the small Harbeweiher pond circular route, continue to follow this road past a fantastic viewing point until you reach the Harbeweiher pond. This pond is an extremely untouched and wild, romantic area not far from the Nature Park Centre and lends itself perfectly for nature lovers who do not want to cover long distances. After a short ascent, you will have reached the highest point and can then return on a forest road to the other side of the Nature Park Centre.

Luis-Trenker-Steig - Variante Wald

Start
Church in Wald (744m)
Finish
Church in Wald (750m)
From the Luis-Trenker-Steig car park, which is unfortunately currently closed, follow the signs for Wald and after approx. 50 metres on the main road, you will reach a wide forest path leading directly to Wald. This loop branches off to the left at the fire station. Follow the path over the Benni-Raich bridge to the Bungy-Stüberl, which invites you to take a break with a stunning view of the Pitzeschlucht gorge. From the Bungy-Stüberl, follow the "Luis-Trenker-Steig" signs to return to the starting point via a somewhat steeper path.

Hiking to the Gstoanig Kapelle [chapel]

Start
Car park Audershof (1298m)
Finish
Car park Audershof (1320m)
On the way to the catered mountain hut Larcher Alm, turn off left at the third bend and follow a path, which leads you directly to the ‘Gstoanig Kapelle’, a chapel. Return by the same route to the starting point.

Circular route Wald – Hohenegg – Wald

Start
car park Volksschule Wald (885m)
Finish
car park Volksschule Wald (885m)
ATTENTION: The path to the Walder waterfall is currently closed. (Status as of 10.04.2024)

Starting point: Church in the hamlet of Wald. Follow the path to the left of the church. When you reach the first bend, a steep path forks off to the left to the hamlet of Oberwaldried. Continue past the sports grounds and keep left to cross the Walderbach brook to get to the hamlet of Hohenegg (Erdpyramiden, engl. ‘earth pillars‘) For the way back turn left at the chapel and follow a picturesque track to the Walderbach stream, visit the waterfall – the 10 minute detour is well worth it – and follow the country road for the last stretch to return to the starting point.

Pitztal Glacier Express – From the glacier to the Braunschweiger Hütte

Start
top station of the Glacier Express (2847m)
Finish
Mittelberg (1749m)
The route between the top station of the Glacier Express and the catered mountain hut Braunschweiger Hütte appears to be easy but a treacherous glacier crossing lies in between the two points that should only be attempted with the correct equipment and necessary experience (required equipment: crampons, Grödel crampons). Descend from the Braunschweiger Hütte via a trail that joins with the agricultural road and leads past the Gletscherstube mountain hut.

Great Harbe circular route

Start
Naturparkhaus Kaunergrat (1574m)
Finish
Naturparkhaus Kaunergrat (1574m)
Swiss-Trac Tour: Start: Naturparkhaus Kaunergrat. From there, initially follow a narrow gravel path that will change into a wide forest path. After ca. 30 metres you will reach a junction. Keep right and start your circular route. You can, of course, also take this route in the opposite direction. The forest path will now climb continually. The gravel is loose and rough in places and several water bars cross the path. After approx. 2.5 km you will reach a beautiful spot where you can enjoy views of the Harbe pond and the Harbe meadows which is ideal for a break. After ca. 3 km you will reach the highest point of this route. There is a turn-off to Aifner Alm, but remain on the path that is now taking you downhill and easy to navigate. The circular route will take approx. 2 hours and is 6 km long. Return to the starting point at Naturparkhaus via the same short path as at the beginning of the route.

Circular route Earth Pillars

Start
Car park Fußballplatz Wald (952m)
Finish
Car park Fußballplatz Wald (954m)
ATTENTION: The path to the Walder waterfall is currently closed. (Status as of 10.04.2024)

This hike to the earth pyramids starts at the car park Fußballplatz Wald (Wald football grounds) and leads via a beautiful path in the direction of the hamlet Hohenegg. On this path you will see “two towers with a stone hat” which only result from very special climate conditions from former moraine fields. Once you get to Walderbach stream you can follow it along a path (dead-end) to a waterfall. Return via the same path to the tarmacked road and, on a slight incline upwards, in the direction of Wald. Once at the top, a path turns off left through the forest and back to the starting point by the car park.

Alte Straße from Wenns to Arzl

Start
Hinter dem Pitztaler Hof (1003m)
Finish
Abzw. Timmls (936m)
Swiss-Trac Tour: Please note that we recommend starting this route from Wenns in the direction of Arzl, as there is a steep forest section the opposite way around. Return via Regiobus shuttle bus.
Start this route in Wenns (if possible, park behind Pitztaler Hof). From there, the first kilometre is a steady uphill climb on a tarmac road in between houses. You will then reach a forest road with a central grass verge so that only the narrow tracks either side are drivable. The next kilometre continues to be a steady uphill climb, in parts through a forested area and always with beautiful views of the valley. The last part of this route is a steep downhill section where the path is, in parts, hard to navigate. You will then get back to the road where you will find the bus stop.
