Rifflsee circuit

Starting in Mandarfen, firstly cross the bridge towards the mountain rescue building and then turn left along the agriculture road up towards the catered mountain hut Taschachalm. Once there, continue to run in the direction of Rifflsee Lake until a path forks off to your left. Follow this path to Rifflsee Lake and keep right, then follow the signpost to the mountain restaurant Sunna Alm / top station Rifflsee gondola on the left. From Sunna Alm return down to Rifflsee Lake and follow the lakeside path around the lake, then return to the valley on the path past the Taschachalm. Once there, follow the same route as on your way up to return to your starting point in Mandarfen.

Hike to Kielebergalm

Take a forest track to the right in the direction of the catered mountain hut Kielebergalm. After approx. 15 – 20 minutes walking time, take a left at the fork towards Stein and the catered mountain hut Kielebergalm. This forest track ends just before the Kielebergalm. Note: the last section of the track is very steep. After leaving the Alm keep to the right at all times and then follow the agricultural road, always bearing left to return to Matzlewald.

Via "Hirschtal" up to Sunna Alm

Cross the bridge at the starting point, turn right and follow the valley hiking trail for approximately 300 metres. Then turn left into the Hirschtal valley and follow the signposts to the catered mountain hut Sunna Alm. Comfortably return to your staring point by gondola or, alternatively, hike on to the Riffelseehütte and return to Mandarfen via the panoramic trail [Panoramasteig].

Cross the bridge at the starting point and turn right to follow the valley hiking trail for approximately 300 metres. Then turn left into the Hirschtal valley and follow the signposts to the catered mountain hut Sunna Alm. Once there, continue to walk on the agricultural road to Riffelseehütte mountain hut. Descend via the panoramic trail [Panoramaweg] back to Mandarfen. 

Hike to Leiner Alm

The start of the walk is at the hamlet Krabichl between Leins and Wald. Follow the forest path on the right to the next fork. Then follow the forest road in the direction of the Hilterboden Chapel. The forest road leads to a steep path up to the catered mountain hut Leiner Alm. Return via a forest road on the right of the mountain hut back down to your start in Krabichl. This tour can, of course, also be walked the opposite way around going up via the forest road and returning via the steep path.

Starting in Mandarfen, cross the bridge to the mountain rescue building and then turn right and follow the signpost to “Hirschtal über Panoramaweg”[Hirschtal valley via panoramic trail]. A steep path leads up the Hirschtal valley until you reach the fork Panoramaweg / Rifflseehütte. Turn left and follow the panoramic trail to the catered mountain hut Rifflseehütte. Once there continue to run via the Muttekopf, then a short while uphill on the ski slope until you reach the catered mountain restaurant Sunna Alm / top station of the Rifflsee gondola. Continue downhill to Rifflsee Lake and run around it, then keep right and run down towards the catered mountain hut Taschachalm. Once there, return to your starting point in Mandarfen following the easy agricultural road down the hill.

Trail to the Ludwigsburger Hütte

Walk by the well-signposted and steep path (in parts stepped) or alternatively along the agricultural road to the catered mountain hut Ludwigsburger Hütte. From this hut, which is in a beautiful setting, enjoy views of the Hohe Geige, the Glacier, the Rofele rockface and the Venet summit. Return by the outward route.

Wenns – Oberleins – Jausenstation Waldeck – Wenns

Take a right behind the school and walk towards the Pitze river. After the wooden bridge turn right at the chape l and after approx. 200 m turn left towards Unterleins. Pass the church and the bus stop and continue to walk on an agricultural road to Oberleins. Continue to walk on this track to Krabichl and to the catered mountain hut Jausenstation Waldeck. After that, follow the path to the right in the direction of the catered mountain hut Wenneralm and at the first fork, turn off towards Oberleins, then again to Krabichl and return to Wenns by the same route.

E5 Valley hiking trail alternative route: Wenns – Scheibe

Follow the valley hiking trail [Talwanderweg] from Wenns to Scheibe. This is an easy hike along the bottom of the valley, which repeatedly crosses the country road.

Matzlewald Säge [sawmill] – Kielebergalm – Naturparkhaus [Nature Park Centre] at Gachenblick

From the starting point, walk along a forest path, always bearing right to the catered mountain hut Kieleberalm (1,761 m). After taking a leisurely break there and enjoying the panoramic view of the lower Pitztal valley, retrace your steps for a short while following signposts to the Naturparkhaus [Nature Park Centre]. After the first bend, turn off left by a forest track, that takes you almost directly to the Nature Park Centre (1,560 m). 
A public bus will take you back to the bus stop Matzlewald. From there it is only a short walk along the road to return to the car park by the sawmill.
