Pitztal Glacier Express – From the glacier to the Braunschweiger Hütte
Start
top station of the Glacier Express (2847m)
Finish
Mittelberg (1749m)
The route between the top station of the Glacier Express and the catered mountain hut Braunschweiger Hütte appears to be easy but a treacherous glacier crossing lies in between the two points that should only be attempted with the correct equipment and necessary experience (required equipment: crampons, Grödel crampons). Descend from the Braunschweiger Hütte via a trail that joins with the agricultural road and leads past the Gletscherstube mountain hut.

Finish
gondola top station (2024m)

Finish
Centre of Wenns (999m)
Starting point is the junction/bus stop Timls on the Pitztal country road. It is easiest to get there via Pitztal Regiobus or on foot walking along the Pitztal country road from the village centre of Arzl (ca. 1.5 km). At the junction walk to the first bend uphill in the direction of Timls and then turn off on to the “Alte Straße” (engl. old road, forest road) towards Wenns. Continue to walk to Wenns village centre always staying above the country road. Once there, you can either comfortably return to the starting point by taking Pitztal Regiobus or return by the same route. Walking time from the Timls turnoff to Wenns is approx. 1 hour and 20 min.
Circular route Matzlewald - Klausboden
Start
Bus stop Wenns Matzlewald (1141m)
Finish
Bus stop Wenns Matzlewald (1140m)
Start your walk from the Matzlewald bus stop. From there, hke in the direction of Matzlewald past a small sawmill. Continue to walk on the right on a forest road. After 50 metres turn right again and follow the signs to “Klausboden”. Enjoy the beautiful views of the surrounding hamlets before reaching a romantic woodland area. After crossing two bridges you reach the Klausboden recreational area. Turn left there, stay on the forest road for about 50 metres and then immediately left again following the signs for Matzlewald. The initially quite steep forest road becomes pleasantly flat again after approx. 100 metres and runs back to Matzlewald with a wonderful view of the wintry Venet mountain ridge.

Alte Straße from Wenns to Arzl
Start
Hinter dem Pitztaler Hof (1003m)
Finish
Abzw. Timmls (936m)
Swiss-Trac Tour: Please note that we recommend starting this route from Wenns in the direction of Arzl, as there is a steep forest section the opposite way around. Return via Regiobus shuttle bus.
Start this route in Wenns (if possible, park behind Pitztaler Hof). From there, the first kilometre is a steady uphill climb on a tarmac road in between houses. You will then reach a forest road with a central grass verge so that only the narrow tracks either side are drivable. The next kilometre continues to be a steady uphill climb, in parts through a forested area and always with beautiful views of the valley. The last part of this route is a steep downhill section where the path is, in parts, hard to navigate. You will then get back to the road where you will find the bus stop.
